The year 2020 is a hard hit for watch related trade shows and any massiv gathering. That being said after the downfall of Baselworld the cancellation of Watches and Wonders (offline at least) – a couple of brands said to themselves we need at least one physical show this year. Thats how the Geneva watch days came about – at least thats how I imagine it.
A fresh new watchmaking event in the heart of Geneva, Switzerland. Several major swiss luxury watch brands, including Breitling, Bvlgari, De Bethune, Gerald Genta, Girard-Perregaux, H. Moser & Cie, MB&F, Ulysse Nardin and Urwerk have united to create the independent Geneva Watch Days late August 2020, with the full support of the city and the state of Geneva. – how the show is described on the website (https://www.gva-watch-days.com/)

It was a simplistic approach with a pinch of glamour and a lot of sunshine. The weather really was fantastic which made covid-19 precautious a bit easier seeing that a lot of watches were shown on balconies. It was also a attempt to get closer to the real fans – the gathering also being open to the public. In my opinion it was a hands on approach to a new format of watch gatherings. Brands showing watches, CEO’s having time for a chat and a more connected experience.

After all that had happened this year with Covid-19 I’m actually glad I was able to attend at least 1 watch show and see my friends and fellow enthusiasts from all around the world.
Cheers,
Niko
