Baselworld 2019 was great as far as I’m concerned. The management changed and so did the fair. Prices were finally somewhat decent, there were more spaces to sit, chat and have a drink. With the absence of the Swatch Group the leftover space was transformed into a huge press corner, a piazza with a fountain and seating possibilities and the rest was dedicated to smaller brands like Bell&Ross and Chanel.
For me it was the first time visiting Baselworld as a media representative. The huge press space with more then enough workspaces and high-speed internet were among the key factors for me spending a lot of time there. The press corner also had different storage possibilities and food and drinks were free of charge (similar to what you get during SIHH).
While almost losing half of the exhibitors the main players like LVMH group, Breitling, Rolex, Patek Philippe and many more remained. As I was talking to the brands many stated that the absence of the Swatch Group was beneficial for them because they had more time to talk to journalists and dealers.
During my stay I managed to take a couple of shots complied in this video:
Hope you liked it!
Im looking forward to Baselworld 2020. Let’s see what it will bring.
Cheers,
Nikolaus
