SIHH 2019 has passed and I was part of it for the first time. It was a very interesting experience. These are my thoughts and impressions.
Main focus this year was clearly on millenials and social media. Nearly every booth had some kind of interaction device where you could upload a picture to Instagram or Facebook , the SIHH Laboratory was dedicated to new forms of technology (e.g. VR, AR, Payment Systems and much more).
Compared to Baselworld I must say that SIHH has done a better job in giving the visitor a feeling of being welcomed, even though same as in Basel you really can’t get into the booths on the “public visiting day”. Lucky for me I was there the whole week and had the chance to experience the whole faire as it is and it gave me the opportunity to talk to fellow watch enthusiasts, bloggers, journalists, and above all the watch manufacturers.
I still feel that there is room left for improvement with these kinds of specialist fairs. I’m really eager to see what the new Baselworld managment will do with the fair in 2019 and how the “merger” of the big Swiss watch fairs in 2020 will turn out to be.
What are your thoughts on the watch fair situation at the moment? Let me know what you think in the comments.
Best Regards,
Nikolaus
